Electrical Repair and Troubleshooting

Dead outlets, tripping breakers, flickering lights, and the things that smell hot. Diagnosed and fixed in Memphis and Bartlett.

Some electrical problems are one bad device. Some are a symptom of a bigger one. The job is telling the difference before anyone starts replacing parts. We troubleshoot to the cause, tell you what we found, and quote the fix. If the fix is small, we usually do it on the same visit.

What we fix most

  • Outlets or switches that stopped working
  • A breaker that trips repeatedly, or won't reset
  • Flickering or dimming lights
  • Warm outlets, scorched cover plates, or a burning smell
  • GFCI outlets that won't reset
  • Half the room dead, the other half fine
  • Doorbells, ceiling fans, and exhaust fans that quit
  • Damage after a storm or a surge
  • Work left unfinished or done wrong by someone else

How the $135 minimum works

Estimates for new work are free. Troubleshooting is different, because the diagnosis is the work. Any visit where we have to troubleshoot or perform a repair carries a $135 minimum plus parts. If you accept the proposal for the repair, that $135 is credited to the job. If you decide not to go ahead, you've paid for a licensed electrician to find the problem and tell you what it is, and you're free to take that anywhere.

Hours and after-hours calls

Phones are answered Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 4:30. After-hours and weekend calls are for existing customers and the people they refer to us. If you're a new customer with something that can't wait overnight, leave a message with your name and address and we'll call you back first thing. If something is actively smoking or sparking, cut the breaker and call the fire department first.

How a repair visit goes

  1. Call or request a visit. Describe what's happening and when it started. If a breaker is involved, tell us which one.
  2. Diagnosis. We trace the problem to its cause rather than stopping at the device where it showed up.
  3. Quote. You get the price for the fix before we do it. Small repairs are usually done the same visit.
  4. Repair and warranty. Parts and workmanship are covered for one year.

Repair questions

How much does an electrician cost for a repair in Memphis?

Our troubleshooting and repair visits carry a $135 minimum plus parts, credited to the job if you approve the quote. Most small repairs are quoted on the spot.

Why does my breaker keep tripping?

Usually one of three things: the circuit is overloaded, there's a short or ground fault somewhere on it, or the breaker itself is worn. We test to find out which before replacing anything.

Can you fix work another electrician did?

Yes. A fair share of our repair calls are cleaning up unfinished or incorrect work. We'll show you what we found.

Do you take emergency calls?

After-hours and weekend calls are for existing customers and referrals. New customers: leave a message and we'll call back at 8:00.

Will you replace parts I already bought?

If they're rated for the job, yes. One customer had dimmers another contractor refused to install. We installed them.
